Upon entering the KHAITE store at South Coast Plaza, visitors are transported. The custom storefront serves as a deliberate threshold, marking a clear transition from the bustle of the space’s surroundings, into a carefully orchestrated interior landscape. The store unfolds through a radial composition, where gently curved perimeter walls create a fluid circulation path that encourages movement. This circular geometry establishes a continuous flow around the space rather than a single direction.

In the center lies the main design feature: an asymmetrical grid of sculptural columns that appears to pierce through the ceiling plane. Each display column is "broken," consisting of a solid display base that showcases merchandise, while its upper portion channels light from above, creating dramatic product illumination. The columns' upward trajectory draws visitors' gaze to the central lighting feature, where a large steel shroud conceals a skylight. This architectural reveal is only fully appreciated once visitors venture beneath it, creating moments of discovery within the space that give the illusion that the light is coming from a source high above.

The material palette is deliberately austere – blackened steel, precast concrete, and smooth plaster to create a backdrop to highlight the ready-to-wear collections. These industrial materials are elevated through precise detailing and thoughtful finishing, allowing their natural characteristics to become subtle design elements. Despite its open plan, the space maintains an intimate atmosphere. The curved perimeter walls act as a gentle guide, offering a more structured journey around the store's edge, while the scattered central columns create a field condition that invites spontaneous exploration. This deliberate tension between structured circulation and free movement allows visitors to craft their own experience of the space, whether following the prescribed path or wandering among the forest of illuminated columns.

The overall effect is one of conscious removal from the outside world, where architecture becomes an active participant in elevating the luxury retail experience.
